​Details of The Great Migration Safari

 

As one of the most awe-inspiring wildlife spectacles on Earth, the Great Migration is involving over 1.5 million wildebeest, hundreds of thousands of zebras, and gazelles as they move in a continuous cycle across the Serengeti in Tanzania and the Maasai Mara in Kenya. Driven by the seasonal rains and the search for fresh grazing, this epic journey spans over 1,800 miles each year. Along the way, the herds face dramatic river crossings, particularly at the Mara and Grumeti Rivers, where crocodiles lie in wait. Predators such as lions, cheetahs, and hyenas also follow the herds, as do bnumbers of vultures, adding intensity to the survival struggle.​

Tarangire National Park – Elephants & Baobabs

  • Your Tanzanian adventure begins with a scenic drive from Arusha to Tarangire National Park, home to some of the largest elephant herds in East Africa.

  • The park is known for its ancient baobab trees and abundant wildlife, including buffaloes, giraffes, lions, and zebras.

  • Enjoy a full-day game drive, stopping at a picnic site for lunch while observing animals in their natural habitat.

  • In the late afternoon, be transferred to your selected lodge or tented camp within or near the park, where dinner awaits.​​

Lake Manyara – Birdlife & Tree-Climbing Lions

​

  • After breakfast, head to Lake Manyara National Park, a lush, compact wildlife reserve nestled at the base of the Great Rift Valley, famous for its diverse birdlife and rare tree-climbing lions.

  • During the drive (approx. 2 hours), take in the beautiful Tanzanian countryside.

  • Upon arrival, embark on a game drive through woodlands, swamps, and lakeshore.

  • Spot elephants, hippos, flamingos, and perhaps even leopards.

  • After a full day in the park, settle in for dinner and overnight at your lodge or camp in the Lake Manyara area.

  • After reaching the Serengeti, you’ll enjoy your first game drive in this iconic ecosystem.

  • Depending on the time, lunch will be served en route or inside the park.

  • The afternoon is reserved for exploring the seemingly endless plains—home to lions, cheetahs, and millions of migrating wildebeests and zebras.

  • You’ll overnight at a lodge or tented camp in or near the park.​​

  • This day is dedicated to the Great Migration, a natural spectacle like no other.

  • Depending on the time of year, your guide will take you to the best areas to witness massive herds of wildebeest and zebra, often trailed by predators like lions, hyenas, and crocodiles.

  • You can choose to depart early and have breakfast in the vehicle to maximize your morning game viewing when animals are most active.

  • After a thrilling day of wildlife encounters, return to your Serengeti accommodation for dinner and relaxation under the African sky.

  • The route also provides chances to spot wildlife along the Serengeti-Ngorongoro corridor.

  • Lunch will be enjoyed during the drive, either packed or at a scenic spot.

The Ngorongoro Crater – A Natural Wonder

  • Lunch will be served at a picturesque picnic site by a hippo pool.

  • In the afternoon, ascend the crater walls and return to Arusha.
