Walking excursions offer a unique and immersive way to experience Tanzania’s landscapes beyond the confines of a safari vehicle. Led by knowledgeable local guides or park rangers, these walks are designed to bring you closer to the natural world.
At Ikoma, a sunset walking excursion lets you explore the savannah on foot as the light softens and wildlife activity peaks. Accompanied by a local guide, you’ll learn to read animal tracks, observe birds, and enjoy panoramic views in the golden evening light.
The walk to the Ngaresero Waterfall takes you through a striking volcanic gorge near Lake Natron, offering a more adventurous hiking experience. You’ll navigate rocky paths and streams to reach the base of a scenic waterfall — a refreshing reward amid dramatic scenery.
Lastly, the Lake Walk to Lake Natron brings you to the shores of this mineral-rich alkaline lake, famous for its surreal colors, salt formations, and vast flamingo populations. As you walk along the shoreline, you’ll gain insight into this unique ecosystem and its geological features, and enjoy striking views of the surrounding landscape.
Walking Excursions
A game drive is a guided safari excursion in a specially equipped 4x4 vehicle, led by a professional driver-guide, designed to observe wildlife in their natural environment. It's the most common way to experience an African "safari" — a word that originates from Swahili, meaning "journey". During your journey through Tarangire, Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, and Lake Manyara, game drives allow you to explore a variety of landscapes and ecosystems — from open savannahs to dense woodlands, volcanic highlands, and shimmering lake shores. Each park offers its own natural highlights and signature wildlife: from large elephant herds and towering baobabs in Tarangire, to endless plains in the Serengeti, where lions, cheetahs, and massive wildebeest herds roam.
